Are you prepared to navigate emergency situations in challenging and resource-limited environments? Our comprehensive short courses equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively respond to emergencies in diverse and austere settings. These courses are meticulously designed for individuals aspiring to work in expedition, outdoor and experiential education, humanitarian aid, disaster relief, or any field where the ability to respond swiftly and efficiently in austere conditions is crucial.

 

Our programs stand out for their dynamic and interactive approach, offering participants an immersive learning experience that goes beyond traditional classroom methods. Delivered by a team of highly skilled instructors, our courses incorporate simulation-based training, case studies, and role-playing exercises, enabling participants to apply their knowledge in realistic scenarios.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of the unique challenges posed by emergencies in austere environments, such as natural disasters, conflict zones, or remote locations. Our short courses cover a variety of areas including life-support and critical care, traumatic, medical, and environmental emergencies.

The ACC course must be taken first. The other courses can be taken in any order.

AUSTERE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE

Master critical skills for austere emergencies in this BLS-level course. Explore patient management algorithms, basic life support, and tackle immediate life threats: circulatory, respiratory, and nervous systems emergencies.

Dive into trauma management in austere environments. From catastrophic hemorrhage to blast injuries, learn advanced techniques for handling thoracic, abdominal, musculoskeletal, and penetrating traumas, ensuring comprehensive preparedness.

Enhance your expertise in austere emergencies with our comprehensive course. Delve into advanced algorithms, specialized topics like acute pulmonary oedema, sepsis, and illnesses affecting airways. Explore the considerations for wokring with special populations, vector-borne illnesses, and emergency obstetrics.

Gain expertise in handling austere environmental emergencies with our specialized course. Explore exposure-related illnesses, altitude challenges, submersion injuries, and more. Dive into specific topics like avalanche, toxins, and hyperbaric concerns for comprehensive preparedness.

Certification

Upon successful completion of all four modules, participants receive an internationally recognised certification from Austere & Emergency Medicine International, valid for three years.

Recertification

Eligible graduates from other recognized wilderness or austere medical schools may recertify their WEMT / Austere Medic with this course.

Candidates wishing to recertify must have a current WEMT or AM certification (unexpired or within the grace period of the issuing school) earned in one of the following course types:

  1. A recognized WEMT, WEMS or AM course with a minimum of 45 hours of in-person instruction.
  2. An eligible recertification course with a minimum of 24 hours of in-person instruction.

To recertify, you must attend a 5-day hybrid course or ACC and AER, and pass the practical assessments for BLS, Choking & Anaphylaxis, and pass the cognitive assessment.
