Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of CPR and an AED
  • Describe the overall framework that provides the best chance of survival (chain of survival)
  • Provide high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Understand how important the early use of an AED is to patient outcomes
  • Provide automated external defibrillation
  • Provide effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Relieve foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
  • Help a patient suffering a stroke or heart attack
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and administer an epipen

Audience

This course is open to anyone over the age of 10-years old. No prior first aid or medical training is required.

Methodologies

This course will involve classroom lectures, skills practices, assessment drills and emergency simulations.

  • ELS, CPR & AED

Recertification

Certification Validity: 3 years.

Evaluation

Certification requires:

  • 100% attendance
  • Completion of all practical assessments
  • A mark of 80% or greater in the written exam
