Summary
The ELS Course trains participants to recognize and treat cardiac arrest and other immediate life-threats including choking, heart attack, stroke, and anaphylaxis.
You will learn how to provide high-quality CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely, and to maximum effect.
Objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the purpose of CPR and an AED
- Describe the overall framework that provides the best chance of survival (chain of survival)
- Provide high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- Understand how important the early use of an AED is to patient outcomes
- Provide automated external defibrillation
- Provide effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Relieve foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
- Help a patient suffering a stroke or heart attack
- Identify the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and administer an epipen
Audience
This course is open to anyone over the age of 10-years old. No prior first aid or medical training is required.

This course will involve classroom lectures, skills practices, assessment drills and emergency simulations.

Certification Validity: 3 years.

Evaluation
Certification requires:
- 100% attendance
- Completion of all practical assessments
- A mark of 80% or greater in the written exam
